Biography: Ray Martinez
A native of the Dominican Republic, veteran bassist, composer, and arranger Ray Martinez began his formal music education at the National Conservatory of Music before continuing his studies in New York City. Over a career spanning more than five decades, Martinez has built an impressive roster of collaborations with some of the most revered figures in Latin music, including Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Ray Barretto, Johnny Pacheco, Héctor Lavoe, and Ismael Rivera.
His exceptional reputation extends far beyond the traditional Latin sphere, leading to diverse and high-profile opportunities, including embarking on two world tours with David Byrne, former leader of the Talking Heads. His in-demand status further led him to record with international superstar Juan Luis Guerra and 4:40, as well as the esteemed Puerto Rican folklore group Los Pleneros de la 21. Today, Martinez continues to perform globally as a legendary member of the Lavoe Orchestra concert series.

His unique sonic tapestry incorporates 6/8 rhythms, Cha-Cha, Guaguancó, Samba, Funk, and the expressive "blue note," resonating with the universal human spirit.
